Overview

The Department of Learning Environments at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is dedicated to creating dynamic, technology-rich spaces for students and faculty. As part of their annual AV Installation Classroom upgrade cycle, the university seeks out hardware that can keep up with evolving teaching styles.

At the start of the Spring 2026 semester, UTEP expanded its initiative by installing 30 new classroom sets of tablet mounting solutions in the newly opened Texas Western Hall, ensuring that cutting-edge tools are accessible across the campus.

The Challenge

Every classroom is unique; from the layout of the room to the design of the instructor’s podium, a "one size fits all" mounting solution rarely works. UTEP needed a tablet mount that was:

UTEP partnered with Compulocks to integrate the iPad Mount with Articulating Arm into their standard classroom setup. This solution was chosen specifically for its ability to complement a simplistic installation process while adapting to diverse learning spaces.

• Adaptable Mounting: For spaces with tight constraints or specialized furniture, the arm can be switched to a wall-mount or side-podium bracket configuration.
• Full Range of Motion: The articulating arm allows instructors to adjust, extend, and pan/tilt the iPad to their exact needs, providing a seamless interface for the room's AudioVisual system.
• Versatile Toolset: Beyond a control panel, the mount enables the iPad to function as a camera, document scanner, or a digital notepad for live annotations.
• Integrated Security: Throughout all these uses, the device remains protected by a robust key lock mechanism.

Results

The integration of Compulocks articulating arms has streamlined the installation phase for UTEP’s AV team and provided faculty with a highly flexible teaching tool. By removing the physical barriers of traditional mounts, the university has successfully created a more responsive and interactive classroom environment.
